The weather was on our side for our annual Owners Day on the 6th September and we welcomed over 160 owners, friends and family into the yard to see the horses and enjoy lunch and live music from Andrias Guerin. It was a pleasure to see everyone before the season starts and I hope everyone will agree that the day was a great success.
We paraded all the horses and they looked immaculate and all behaved very well. The staff worked endlessly to get the yard looking tidy and the horses were a credit to everyone’s hard work! We owe a lot of thank yous to so many people for making the day possible. The food is all done in house by Ros, Bun, Julie, Jane and many others who all supply a dish! A thank you to Neil for the use of his marquee and Sophie for the use of her garden, which is basically the only level place on the farm! A massive thank you to Lesley for doing the table flowers this year and to Michelle who is our saviour for prepping food and drink behind the scenes on the day!
We are fully back into the swing of things now with all the horses back cantering. Plans have been made for a few who will make their seasonal appearances early. We could, however, still do with plenty more rain! It’s amazing how resilient the grass has been with the weather. It was only a couple weeks ago it was looking dead and burnt but now it is back green again! Once the rain comes, we can start using the fields again and get schooling outside, but for now, the carpet gallop is getting well used!! We are also able to use our school to do plenty of jumping and are lucky to have a FlexiChase fence that is easy to move in and out of the school when we need it.
Ghost Jury ran a pleasing race at Newton Abbot to finish 3rd under Ben Jones. She enjoyed being ridden from the front and would appreciate a step up in trip.
The Point to Point season starts at Lower Machen on the 1st November and it is great to see local tracks like Buckfastleigh and Trebudannon holding meetings this side of the New Year. It’ll soon creep on round!
